Datastore can be interacted with in a number of ways. The most general method is using the shared Cloud Client libraries for Datastore, which can be used by applications running just about anywhere, including Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Kubernetes Engine, outside of GCP, or within the App Engine flexible environment. Additionally, these client applications may fall back on the underlying APIs where necessary.
