Resources for giving

People need a variety of resources in order to make charitable donations. First among these is access to income or wealth. Research consistently finds that people with higher levels of income and wealth give more to charity. However, all people deserve the opportunity to participate in philanthropy. Fundraisers should seek contributions from people across the financial resource spectrum, not just those with high levels of income and wealth. People across all income levels give to charity, and there is even evidence that those with lower incomes donate relatively more: they give a higher percentage of their income.
