How to do it...

Take the following steps to add new custom fields to the backend user profile:

1. Open the wpcookbookchapter5.php file of the new WPCookbook Chapter 5 plugin in the code editor.
2. Add the following code after the plugin definition code to initialize the actions for adding custom fields:

add_action('show_user_profile', 'wpccp_chapter5_user_extra_fields');add_action('edit_user_profile', 'wpccp_chapter5_user_extra_fields');

3. Add the following code after the code in step 2, to create and display three new custom fields in the profile:
