Updating the capabilities of user roles

We can take the following steps to edit the capabilities of an existing user role:

1. Click the User Role Editor item in the Users menu.
2. Select a user role for the Select Role and change its capabilities setting. In this case, we will select the Author role to get the following screen. The default author capabilities are selected:

3. Click the Posts menu item from the left-hand section.
4. Enable the edit_private_posts capability.
5. Click the Update button.

Now, users with the Author role have one additional capability of editing private posts apart from the default capabilities.
