strategy to the demands of specific situations. I also have offered
some advice about what companies can do to accelerate the vari-
ous types of transitions.
To conclude, however, it is essential to take a step back from
the diversity of transitions and return to an exploration of their
underlying unity. While each of the transition types has distinct
