AUL’S SUCCESS IN DEFUSING the crisis with
Omega was a key “early win.” He got a big credi-
bility boost with his peers, his team, and his boss.
It established him as a force to reckon with in the organization
and helped reenergize the troops in the field.
But he knew he couldn’t afford to rest on his laurels. Eliza-
beth was rapidly sorting out Beta’s production and reliability
problems. Very soon, the company would be ready to launch a
broad counterattack on the competition. Sales would have to
be ready to lead the charge.
Paul had begun to put the foundations in place. Working
with Beta’s VP of HR, he launched a recruiting drive to the fill
