Start by reading a good textbook on negotiation to get an overview of the
field. I recommend:
Lewicki, Roy. Essentials of Negotiation. Alexandria, VA: Society for Human
Resource Management, 2005. (This is the most recent edition.)
Then read the “accessible classics”:
Carnegie, Dale. How to Win Friends and Influence People. New York:
Simon and Schuster, 1936.
Fisher, Roger, William Ury, and Bruce Patton. Getting to Yes: Negotiating
Agreement Without Giving In. New York: Penguin Books, 1991.
Ury, William. Getting Past No: Negotiating with Difficult People. New York:
Bantam Books, 1991.
