Days and unflaggingly supported me through the inevitable ups

and downs of the writing process. This book truly would never

have been written without her.

Many of the examples that are used throughout the book were

inspired by conversations I’ve had with leaders in transition. One

outstanding leader in particular, Mark Clouse, offered a wealth of

insight into the challenges of making international moves—the

chapter on that challenge draws on our many discussions. Other
