mknod — Make a Special File
Synopsis
/usr/sbin/mknod name b major minor /usr/sbin/mknod name c major minor /usr/sbin/mknod name p
Description
Use the mknod command to make a directory entry for a special file.
If you use mknod(2) to create a device, the major and minor device numbers are always interpreted by the kernel running on that machine.
Note
With the advent of physical device naming, it is preferable to create a symbolic link to the physical name of the device (in the /devices subtree) instead of using the mknod command.
