Dominant people
An important aspect of a team that functions well is that everyone’s voice is able to be heard and different views are respected. Dominant people can endanger this balance, making it more difficult for the quieter or more reticent colleagues to make their contribution. Dominant behaviour is often unconscious, which means that if it is not challenged and checked it will continue unabated.
First, think:
- Do you feel you understand what represents dominant behaviour, how to recognise it and what effect it may have on a team or group?
- How happy are you with the culture within the team? Do you feel everyone is treated and heard equally? If not, how do you really feel about this imbalance?
