When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
What About Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills?
Before developing the project plan and writing training modules—the next two steps of the eight-step model—ask the design team if there are prerequisites for employees learning how to perform any of the tasks in the task list. In other words, what knowledge and skills are employees expected to have when they are hired for a particular job?
For example, assume that we are charged with training new employees on the task “change a flat automobile tire.” Design team members would ask themselves, “What knowledge and skills are employees expected to have when they start training on changing a flat tire? Will they know how to operate a jack, or how to attach a jack to a car?” If not, and if teaching these ...
