In high-technology environments, training materials must be modular and easily adaptable, whether paper- or computer-based. Unless the training is computer-based, a paper version generally works best during a training session so that both trainer and trainee can follow along. A long-term advantage of having the learner actively use the module during training is that doing so reinforces the practice of following procedures where it really counts—on the job.
