It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
8.10. Change Your Outgoing Mail Port to Ensure Messages Get Sent
If your e-mail provider requires a different port for outgoing mail, you can configure your e-mail account to use the different port so that your message gets sent.
For security reasons, some Internet service providers (ISPs) insist that all their customers' outgoing mail must be routed through the ISP's Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) server. This usually is not a big deal if you are using an e-mail account maintained by the ISP, but it can lead to several problems if you are using an account provided by a third party (such as your Web site host).
