11.3. Define Actions for Notebook Power Buttons

You can get easy access to the Windows 7 notebook power-down modes — shut down, sleep, and hibernate — by configuring your notebook's power buttons.

In shut down mode, Windows 7 closes your open programs and shuts off every computer component. The notebook uses no power while shut down.

In sleep mode, Windows 7 saves all open programs and documents to memory, and turns off everything but the memory chips. The notebook uses a bit of power (for the memory chips) while off. When you restart, Windows 7 restores your desktop as it was in just a few seconds.
