6.8. Run a Program in Compatibility Mode

If you are having trouble running an older program, you can customize the program's icon to run in compatibility mode so that it works properly under Windows 7. For best performance and stability, you should try wherever possible to run programs that were designed only for Windows 7.

This is not always practical, however, so it is likely that you have some older programs that came about prior to Windows 7.
