You can make your e-mail address more private by thwarting the Web bugs inserted into some e-mail messages.
A Web bug is a small and usually invisible image, the code for which is inserted into an e-mail message. That code specifies a remote address from which to download the Web bug image when you open or preview the message.
However, the code also includes a reference to your e-mail address. The remote server makes note of the fact that you received the message, which means your address is a working one and is therefore a good target for further spam messages. By blocking Web bugs, you undermine this confirmation and so receive less spam.
