4.2. Specify a Different Program When Opening a File

You can open a file in a different program from the one normally associated with the file. This enables you to use the other program's features to work on the file.

Every document you create has a particular file type. File types are Text Documents, Rich Text Documents, Bitmap Images, JPEG Images, and more. All these types have a default program associated with them. For example, Text Documents are associated with Notepad, and Rich Text Documents are associated with WordPad or Word. Double-clicking a file opens the file in the associated program.
