11.1. Set Battery Alarms to Avoid Running Out of Power

You can configure Windows 7 to warn you when your notebook PC battery level is running low so that your computer does not shut down on you unexpectedly.

If you are on a plane or in some other location where no AC outlet is available, you have no choice but to run your notebook PC on batteries. The ability to run on battery power is why notebooks are so convenient, but it has a downside: If your notebook battery runs out, you can lose your work.

To prevent this, you can configure Windows 7 to display a notification when the battery is low. This warning gives you enough time to save your work and possibly shut down the computer until you can recharge it.
