12.1 INTRODUCTION

This chapter discusses the cost justiﬁcation of adding usability engineering to

projects aimed at developing software for use in different countries and cultures.

I have drawn upon the writings of and conversations with colleagues who have

signiﬁcant experience in international design, and extrapolated from our col-

lective experience to explore the cost justiﬁcation of applying usability engi-

neering in international contexts.
