Applying a Service Pack or Cumulative Update During a New Installation
With the available preconfigured slipstream installation downloads and the new Product Update feature, Microsoft has made it easier to apply service packs during a SQL Server 2012 installation. You can choose to download and run a SQL Server slipstream installation package that already includes the latest service pack or choose to have the latest product updates downloaded and included during the SQL Server installation. The new Product Update feature actually replaces the slipstream functionality that was introduced in SQL Server 2008 SP1, so there is no reason anymore to create or configure your own slipstream installation.
