The Database Engine Tuning Advisor GUI
From the Tools menu in SSMS, you can select the Database Engine Tuning Advisor option to invoke the GUI for DTA. Or you can invoke this GUI by selecting Start, All Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Performance Tools, Database Engine Tuning Adviser Program from your desktop (see Figure 36.2).

It’s best not to run the DTA against a live production database. You should make a copy of the database in a safe place for this type of detailed analysis. You should use a copy of the production database, though, because you want all decisions ...
