This chapter explored the new paths Microsoft is pursuing with MPP DW appliances and some additional features such as xVelocity (in-memory option) and columnstores. There are many more emerging tools coming for the DW components in SQL Server, but the current offering is just short of incredible already. It is also now easier than ever to bring together both structured data (in PDW) and unstructured data (in Hadoop) to start conquering the Big Data opportunity that you might have.
The next chapter, Chapter 58, “Managing Linked Servers,” describes how you can bridge across multiple SQL Server instances and make cross-instance queries safely and securely. This is extremely useful for unleashing data across multiple SQL Server platforms. ...
