How SQL Server FTS Works
The two main components of FTS are as follows:
Indexing—Extracts the textual content and in some cases properties (more later) from your data and stores the words or tokens in inverted file indexes. Statistics are collected on the words and phrases to allow for semantic analysis and queries.
Searching—Queries these inverted file indexes and returns the rows that match the query.
