What’s New in Configuring, Tuning, and Optimizing SQL Server Options

There are a few new configuration options in SQL Server 2012. These new configuration options are primarily targeting memory care and feeding. Specifically, there are new aspects to max server memory, min server memory, and Addressing Windowing Extensions (AWE)-enabled memory options. Another change is the startup parameter of the SQL Server database engine that provides an amount of memory to reserve (-g option). However, you must be warned that there are options available that are not obsolete yet but have no effect (even if you set them). We identify them in this chapter as they come up.
