The Client Connection Impact of a Failover
To help in visualizing exactly what effect a SQL Server failure and subsequent failover may have on an end-user application, we’ll go ahead and install the AdventureWorks2012 database on this SQL Server failover cluster. (See the Introduction chapter for information on how to download and install the AdventureWorks2012 sample database.). This shouldn’t take you more than about 10 minutes to do. Use SSMS to do this install but start by connecting to the virtual SQL Server (VSQL2012DXD in our example) that we just created (as shown in Figure 42.26).
