What’s New with Database Snapshots

With SQL Server 2012, there is little new to this feature beyond what was available in SQL Server 2008. One hundred percent of the SQL code you have set up for creating and managing snapshots should still work perfectly with SQL Server 2012. No upgrade pain here. However, database mirroring is a deprecated feature in SQL Server 2012 and may not be available in a future release of SQL Server. If you are considering using database snapshots with database mirroring, you may want to plan to switch to using them with AlwaysOn Availability Groups instead.

Note

The examples in this chapter are based on AdventureWorks2012 database.
