Not much new for SQL Server 2012 database mirroring. As previously mentioned, all new database failover and distributed workload attention has gone to AlwaysOn Availability Groups. However, in SQL Server 2008 R2, the essential improvements of high performance were provided that have now all been absorbed into the AlwaysOn components. These performance improvements were brought about by Microsoft’s efforts to isolate and resolve the bottleneck that was centered on the bulky transmission of full-size log records from one SQL Server to another.
