What steps can negotiators take in order to maximize the effectiveness of third-party intervention or, ideally, avoid it altogether? There is no magical prescription, but we strongly advocate the following:
A good scientists will set up an experiment in which there are “blinds.” For example, in testing the effectiveness of a particular drug, some patients might be given the drug and the other group a placebo or sugar pill.
