external activities: activities that can be performed while the machine is

running or producing. External time determines how frequently

you can change over. If the external time is longer than your shortest

run, waiting, or waste, occurs.

feature: a physical feature of a part that naturally contains variation and

imperfections. A corner, edge, at surface, and hole are all examples

of possible features.

feature control frame: a series of compartments containing symbols and

values that describe the tolerance of a feature. The order and pur-

pose of these compartments follow a consistent standard.
