Ethical Pluralism

Ethical pluralism is a strong concept because it claims there is no supreme cultural value, and its assumptions are plausible. Ethical pluralism is not the same as ethical relativism. Ethical relativism is similar to cultural relativism: it claims that what is right or wrong is relative to the circumstances.

Ethical pluralism is not the same as multiculturalism. Multiculturalism emphasizes tolerance of others without necessarily celebrating the possibilities generated by diversity. Ethical pluralism is more than tolerating the cultural values and beliefs of others; it is expecting the interaction of multiple cultures to generate greater understandings between and among societies and a better world.
