Sections, Categories, and Articles
One of Joomla’s strengths is its simplicity and that is reflected in its three-tier hierarchy of article content: Sections, Categories, and Articles.
Using your napkin sketch or information architecture as a guide, structure your articles however it best works for you. To start with, structure your content the way your menus will be structured. But if your site goes deeper than the basic Sections and Categories, don’t worry. Joomla is smart enough to be able to separate your content structure and menu structure if you need it to. Menu structure is covered later in Chapter 7.
You may remember our analogy of the Joomla content structure from Chapter 2 (see Figure 2-6), but it bears repeating. It really is as simple as relating sections to a filing cabinet drawer, categories to file folders, and articles to individual pieces of paper. You can’t have the same piece of paper in multiple folders or a folder in multiple drawers.
Warning
There are new changes to the way content is structured in Joomla 1.6. Please see Chapter 21 for more details.
