Chapter 12. User Manager

Users are an essential part of any website and content management system. When you give your site visitors the ability to register, perform functions, or customize their preferences, there’s a greater sense of belonging and community. This encourages them to keep coming back.

In Joomla, user administration has a small number of predefined user groups with roles and abilities intended to make it easy to use.

User Manager

Managing users takes place within the User Manager. You can access the User Manager by navigating to Site→User Manager. You can also access it by clicking the User Manager icon in the Control Panel. Figure 12-1 shows the User Manager prepopulated with some example users.

Although most of the columns might appear self-explanatory, following is a brief overview of each:

Name

This is the proper name of the given user.

Username

This is what the user logs into her account with.

Logged In

A green checkmark indicates that the user is currently logged in.

Enabled

A green checkmark means that particular user’s account is enabled. An X indicates that the user’s account is disabled.

Group

Each group assigns different permissions to each particular user. Later in this chapter, we cover how user permissions and groups work.

E-Mail

This is the user’s email address.

Last Visit

Last Visit shows the last time a particular user logged in ...
