As the Six Sigma culture grows within the business organization, it will become more
common to hear process performance referred to in terms of Z-score. The spreadsheet
table can be used to quickly convert to the process yield, PPM, etc. given a stated Z-score.
For example, the process yield corresponding to a Z-score of 3.0 is about 99.83 (%) by visual
interpolation. The process defective rate corresponding to a Z-score of 3.0 is approximately
1700 (ppm), again by visual interpolation (Table 15.3).
The process performance can be evaluated using several approaches. In the rst
