• To select all the visible brushed paths in the illustration,

choose Select→Object→Brush Strokes. (The hidden brush-

strokes on the Horus layer are protected.)

Choose Object→Expand Appearance. Illustrator converts

the selected brushstrokes to path outlines, as well as the

stroke colors to fi lls.

Save your changes. No sense in going to all that effort without

saving your work. Press Ctrl+Shift+A (or -Shift-A) to deselect

the artwork. Then press Ctrl+Shift+S (-Shift-S) to bring up

the Save As dialog box. Name the new fi le as desired—I called

mine Horus expanded.ai, also found in the Lesson 09 folder—

and click the Save button.

Figure 9-32 shows the fi nal illustration. Despite its simplicity—just

four brushes and nine brushed paths—the effect is bold, verging on

overwrought. Who wouldn’t want to BitTorrent this single?
