Fortunately, this is easy to remedy:
•
Back in the Symbols panel, double-click the Spine thumbnail to edit the
symbol in the isolation mode.
• Press T to select the type tool. Drag across the upside-down 4 to high-
light the number and replace it with a 5.
• Press the Esc key twice, fi rst to accept your text edits and second to exit
the symbol-isolation mode.
• That should be all it takes, but Illustrator misses the edit. So reselect
the 3D box art. (If necessary, switch to the outline mode and select the
rectangle there.) Switch to the Appearance panel, and click on the 3D
Extrude & Bevel link. Turn on the Preview check box to inspire Illus-
trator to pay attention to your symbol adjustment. Click OK.
19. Turn on Cast Shadow path. To complete the artwork, press F7 to bring up
the Layers panel. Twirl open the Background layer and turn on the item
called Cast Shadow. The resulting illustration appears in Figure 10-77.
Insofar as Illustrator is concerned, we still have a rectangle and a line of point
type. And yet they appear, print, and export as something considerably more,
thanks to the power of dynamic effects.
