• Collapse the docking pane to icons by clicking



in the

upper-right corner (or on the top of the docking pane).

Restore it with another click.

• Note that you can not drag a docking pane, but you can

create one—on the other side of the screen, for example—

by dragging a panel to a new location and waiting for a

blue vertical bar to appear. You can make multiple dock-

ing panes side-by-side as well. Note that adjacent docking

panes “stick” together; dragging one will drag all adjacent

panes. To detach a docking pane, you must instead detach

all its cluster panes.

15. Save your custom workspace. Now that you have your pan-

els arranged just the way you want them, save which pan-

els are visible as well as their position and scale by choosing

Window→Workspace→Save Workspace or selecting Save

Workspace from the workspace control pop-up menu. Name

the workspace “One-on-One Workspace” (see Figure 1-34) and

then click the OK button.

Restore one of the default workspaces. Having saved your

custom workspace, you can now switch between it and any

other workspace, including any of Illustrator’s defaults. Choose

Window→ Workspace→ Essential. All the panels return to their

layout from back in Step 1.

17. Bring back the One-on-One workspace. Now comes the real

test. Choose Window→Workspace→ One-on-One Workspace

and, presto, your saved workspace reappears.
