14. Modify the fi ll and stroke attributes. Although you may not
know it to look at it, the text comprises three strokes and six
fi lls. In this step, we’re going to change all but one of each.
While it sounds like a lot of work, it’s hardly unusual when
customizing complex styles. If along the way, it seems like so
much busy work, perish the thought. Each adjustment makes
a meaningful (if subtle) contribution to the overall effect. Here
are the steps, all of which I document visually in Figure 10-21:
•
Shift your attention to the Appearance panel. Double-check
that the type is selected so you don’t waste any time.
•
Click to the right of the second Stroke item to select it.
(Clicking the word Stroke brings up a pop-up panel of
stroke settings, which is not what we want.) Then click its
color swatch and select the purple called Plum from the list
of swatches. Finally, press Enter or Return.
• In the same manner, change the third stroke to the deep
green labeled Forest. (That is, click to the right of the third
Stroke, click its color swatch to bring up a list of swatches,
select Forest, and press Enter or Return.)
•
Click the icon in front of the second Fill item to turn it off.
•
Click the third Fill item. (When editing a fi ll, you don’t have
to click to the right of it.) Click its color swatch, select the
light green called Lime, and press Enter or Return.
