we’ve reduced the fi le size from 938K to 64K (your results may

vary slightly). We got a download speed of 3 seconds which

seems reasonable for the quality we’re getting.

You’ll notice that your optimized JPEG may seem a little more garish than

its original version on screen. The reasons for this are somewhat convoluted,

but basically Illustrator is compensating for the fact that the new JPEG is

converted to the sRGB color space automatically as part of the Save for Web

process. You’re likely viewing it in the brighter Adobe RGB space on screen,

and the multiple translations are giving you a false sense of saturation.

12. Save your fi le with a Web-friendly name. Now that you have

a graphic you can feel save sending out to the World Wild Web,

click the Save button. In the Save Optimized As dialog box,

name your fi le something that won’t cause confusion on Web

servers, namely no spaces. So call it “The-Web-friendly-ghost.

jpg” and click the Save button.
