Try turning the Preview check box off and on a couple of times and
notice that, without your having actually done anything, the Envelope
Mesh command automatically simplifi es a few path outlines. The face
and neck grow thicker, the eyes narrow, and the top lip thins out. Most
regrettably, the red path under the right eye contracts to a sliver, as
highlighted by the
in Figure 9-64. Alas, such casualties are the prices
we pay for this powerful feature.
Click the OK button to apply the envelope mesh.
12. Bring the enveloped tiki to the front. To make the large tiki as
easily accessible as possible, choose ObjectArrangeBring
to Front or press Ctrl+Shift+
(-Shift- ). I also suggest you
double-click the top Tiki Idol sublayer in the Layers panel and
change the Color setting from the default Red to something
that provides better contrast with the reds and oranges of the
wood. (I went with Black because it shows up well in print.)
13. Slant the eyes and mouth upward. Switch to the white arrow
tool. Then select and reposition the anchor points in Rows 3, 5,
and 6 of the envelope mesh, identifi ed by arrows in Figure 9-65.
In almost all cases, you’ll want to move the points upward,
the exception being the two central points at the base of the
mouth in Row 6 (those you should nudge down). You’ll also
need to adjust the control handles ...
