tool, and Alt-click (Option-click) the larger of
the rectangles to select the shape without selecting
the group, as shown in Figure 2-49. Then press
Ctrl+Shift+ (-Shift- on the Mac) to bring the
shape to the front of the group.
32. Flip the ornament. Now to duplicate the ornament
to the other positions around the central face. First,
select the grouped ornament with the
tool. To fl ip
the selection, we’ll use Illustrator’s refl ect tool ( ).
You can access the refl ect tool by clicking and hold-
ing the
tool in the toolbox or by pressing the O key.
Once you have the tool selected, Alt-click (or Option-click)
at the intersection of the guides at the center of the artwork.
This sets the refl ection axis and opens the Refl ect dialog box,
shown in Figure 2-50. The refl ection axis is simply an invisible
line that the artwork will fl ip (or refl ect) across—you can think
of it as a mirror that the artwork will refl ect across. Make sure
the Preview check box and Vertical are selected. Do not click
OK; instead, click Copy, which duplicates the ornament.
