Linear Burn Mode

This mode acts much like Multiply mode, but has a greater tendency to make areas pure black. It also seems to maintain more of the color from the underlying image. Use it anytime you'd think about using Multiply mode, but would like a higher-contrast result. If you ever find that standard shadows (which usually use Multiply mode) look a little too gray, then try Linear Burn; you might like the result better (Figures 13.43 and 13.44), although you will need to lower the Opacity setting to avoid getting an overly dark result. So, anytime you'd normally use Multiply mode, be sure to also try Linear Burn mode—especially if you're looking for a darker, more saturated result (Figures 13.45 and 13.46).
