Moving the Vignette slider toward the right will cause the corners of your image to become brighter, while moving it to the left will darken the corners. The midpoint slider determines how far this brightness change will intrude toward the middle of the document. I don't run into too many images that have corners that are darker than the center of the image (although I see some older scanned images with that problem), but I like to use this feature because the darkened corners will usually direct the viewer's attention toward the middle of the image (Figures 16.123 and 16.124).
