Rendering as an Art Form

One of the most sought-after goals of computer rendering is to create hyperrealistic images. When you first look at a hyperrealistic image, you can’t tell if the image is real or not (Fig. 5.1).

A cadre of professionals, loosely called rendering artists, are devoted to computer rendering. They are dedicated to the rendering craft; they can work weeks, if not months, on a single render to produce images and animations that are hyperrealistic. In short, they are artists in their fields who create incredible images, animations, and movies.

Rendering Artists

This chapter focuses on renderings created by some of these professionals. These images (Fig. 5.1 to Fig. 5.13) incorporate the principles outlined here as interpreted by these artists to further their works and create emotive, realistic images. The following artists are featured.
