Before delving into tool descriptions, you should understand the general tasks that are typically performed on textures. These tasks are referenced in Chapter 9 where you’ll learn to assess and adjust textures.

  • Applying: Applying refers to the placement of textures onto surfaces. The Paint Bucket tool applicator is used to place textures onto model faces.
  • Scaling: Scaling increases or decreases the size of the texture image. By adjusting the size, you can make the pattern/photo of the material image larger or smaller on the applied surfaces. The Paint Bucket tool’s Edit function and SketchUp’s right-click Texture menu are used to scale textures.
  • Swapping:Solid colors andtexture images can be easily replaced or swapped with a click of the button. An existing, applied material can be replaced with a new material using the functions under Edit in the Paint Bucket. Swapping is done in the Paint Bucket tool under the Edit menu.
  • Adjusting Color:Amending texture colors can help ensure that a material has the correct appearance. Color can be adjusted with the Paint Bucket tool or with external photo-editing software, such as Photoshop.
  • Moving/Rotating:You can modify the position and orientation of textures on surfaces using the right-click Texture options.
  • Computer Performance and Texture Views: When they are applied to model surface, textures can effect computer and SketchUp performance. You can mitigate these effects using the SketchUp Tools Style menu, which controls ...
