Methods

The chapters in Part 3 are intended to be used collectively as they individually address the following methods:

  • The Detailing Tools
  • The Component Details
  • Organizing the Model

Detailing Tools

Chapter 12 introduces the various tools, such as layers and scenes, that you can use to add a lot of detail to your models, while maintaining computer and model performance (Fig. 11.9).

Component Details

Components are the details. Chapter 13 discusses premade components. Premade components are widely available, extremely effective, easy to find, and easy to insert into a model. By using filler components from 3D Warehouse, you will be able to quickly insert appropriate detail. Creating and leveraging a Component Library with components from FormFonts and/or DynaSCAPE Sketch3D will ensure that you are using well-made, detailed objects that provide maximum effect for SketchUp renderings.

Organizing the Model

Organization is everything. Adding detailed components, particularly vegetation, can slow down SketchUp and your computer’s performance. By correctly organizing your model, you can help maintain optimum performance so you can construct detailed rich models with fewer headaches. Using layers and scenes is the key ...
