Batch Rendering

Batch rendering refers to the ability for Shaderlight to generate multiple renderings in a single render session (Fig. 30.1). The batch rendering process leverages Shaderlight’s dynamic preview and Animation tools. You can take two different approaches to batch rendering. The first approach is to do it manually. The second approach automates the process, leading to a leave-it-and-render system. Approach 2 builds on the approach 1, so make sure you understand both.

The key to batch rendering is to use preexisting SketchUp scenes (Fig. 30.2). If you click on a new scene during the rendering process, Shaderlight will update the dynamic preview based on the scene’s camera view. Cycling through multiple scenes and saving them as they complete is at the heart of the batch render process.

The batch process skips two time-consuming aspects of rendering: uploading the model and processing it for display. Instead, Shaderlight simply renders whatever camera view is set in SketchUp without having to reprocess the model for every scene. For large models, this can save you a great deal of time.
