Chapter 8

Becoming a Metrics Guru

In This Chapter

arrow Moving from protocol to conversion

arrow Using metrics in any platform

arrow Putting metrics in feeds

arrow Finding and decoding metrics patterns

It’s totally natural to want to jump ahead to the fun stuff and skip the hard work of setting up a great foundation. I can tell you that trying to come back and add the foundation later is more work than just starting off on the right foot in the first place, though!

In this chapter, I go over the features you need to have in place. I also talk about what you need to know to run a great metrics dashboard and get the deepest picture possible of your site and your content and how it’s all working for you and for your brand.

I cover protocols and best practices along with the nitty-gritty of tracking, conversion, metrics language, and abbreviations. I also show you how to get a handle on how often to check your metrics for each campaign, how to use your metrics history to your advantage, and how to use metrics in unusual places, such as your RSS feed. I also discuss looking for metrics patterns.
