Metrics for Learning

Continuing education is a hot topic being fueled by such venerable educational facilities as MIT and Stanford (both of whom are offering online courses free to the general public now). With the easy availability of tools for classrooms, teachers, students, and administrators, there is no excuse not to be measuring learning metrics.

While you can use open-source tools like Ushahidi to track learning as well as for crisis management, more people have access to online tools like Khan Academy, Udemy, and others. Each tool helps track limited metrics throughout the classes.

Codecademy is a unique way to learn to code, making it an interactive game. It offers metrics in the form of your stats in comparison with others. Then Lumosity offers a way to train your brain to be smarter and keep track of your stats.

You can also use tools like Daytum (see Figure 20-15) and trusty Microsoft Excel to record and track educational data. Daytum has a wide variety of stats you can track. Not surprisingly, Nicholas Felton is a Daytum user.
