You begin your look at Registry tricks by examining a few techniques that will give you more control over file types and applications.

Customizing the New Menu

In Chapter 14, “File and Folder Tricks and Techniques,” I show you how to create new file types and modify existing ones. One of Windows 98's handiest features is the New menu, which lets you create a new file without working within an application. In Explorer, just select File | New, or right-click inside the Contents pane and select New, to display the menu shown in Figure 13.1. From there, just select a command to create a new instance of that particular file type.
