Font Tips

Windows makes it easy to add unique and eye-catching fonts to all your documents. However, some restraint is called for here. Nothing looks worse than—or is as confusing as—a document with too many fonts crammed together on one page. This is known in the trade as the ransom note look.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when performing your font formatting chores:

  • Try to restrict your fonts to no more than a couple per document. If you need various looks, use larger sizes or different styles of the same fonts.

  • A good font combination is a sans serif font for titles and headings and a serif font for the document's main body text (which is the combination used in this book).
